Homestead Exemption Application Instructions

Also used for Over 65 and Disabled Person Exemptions

You have chosen to download a homestead exemption form. To download this form, you will need to have installed Adobe Acrobat Reader which is available for free from the Adobe Website. If you are using Netscape, Acrobat Reader must be installed as a plug-in, rather than a helper application.

After reading these instructions, click on the Homestead Exemption Form button below.
Using Internet Explorer, you may be asked the question, "What do you want to do with this file?" Click the option to "Open this file from its current location." This will start up Acrobat, then open the homestead exemption application in your browser.
Using Netscape, it may automatically try to save the file called collinhomestead2005.php. Select a folder where you can find this file and save it, changing the extension from ".php" to ".fdf". After saving, manually start Adobe Acrobat and select FILE-OPEN (or CTL-O). When the file open window appears, locate the directory where you saved the file, then select "All Files (*.*)" from the "Files of Type" box, then select the file called "collinhomestead2005.fdf", then select OPEN. This will then pass the information to a file called "homestead2006.pdf" and open it in Acrobat.
Some of the fields will already be filled in from the information on the page that brought you here. If any of this information is incorrect, you may replace it by placing your cursor over the incorrect text, clicking to activate that field, then typing the correct information.
Other fields must be filled in that are currently blank. Fill these fields after you have printed the form.
You must then print the form from the print button on the Adobe Toolbar. If you try to print from the browser print command, the form may not print correctly.
Sign and date the form and mail to the Appraisal District at the address at the top of the form.
The form cannot be sent by e-mail, as it must be signed by the owner.
