2008 GENERAL PROPERTY APPRAISAL AND TAX CALENDAR

January 1st, 2008 Values established as of January 1st for most properties. See Sept. 1st for exceptions.
February 1st, 2008 Taxes are due upon receipt of the tax bill and are delinquent if not paid BEFORE February 1st of the year following the year in which imposed.
February 1st, 2008 Mail rendition forms to businesses.
May 2nd, 2008 Mail notice of appraised value for all real estate accounts.
May 5th, 2008
through June 2nd, 2008
District staff and property owners meet informally to discuss real estate appraisals, real estate exemptions, etc.
June 2nd, 2008 Deadline for timely filing written protest on property with a notice of appraisal date of May 2nd, 2008 (real estate).
  Note: Timely protest deadline is June 2nd, 2008 or 30 days after notice of appraisal, whichever is later.
May 22nd, 2008 Appraisal Review Board begins conducting protest hearings.
  Note: The Board will continue until all protest hearings are completed, generally concluding around July 19th.
July 21st, 2008 Appraisal Review Board will approve appraisal records on or before July 21st, 2008.
July 25th, 2008 Chief Appraiser certifies the appraisal roll to each taxing entity.
August - September Taxing entities complete "truth in taxation" requirements and set their tax rates.
August 1st District begins preparation for next year's appraisal project.
September 1st An owner of business personal property inventory may file an application to have the inventory appraised as of September 1st.
August, 2008 - April, 2009 Staff appraisers inspect properties and gather appraisal data.
October 2008 Current year taxes are billed by the Tax Assessor/Collector.
